چکیده

We continue our study on the approximation of a system of partial differential equations recently proposed by Hadeler and Kuttler to model the dynamics of growing sandpiles on a flat bounded table. The novelty here is the introduction of (infinite) walls on the boundary of the domain and the corresponding modification of boundary conditions for the standing and for the rolling layers. An explicit finite difference scheme is introduced and new boundary conditions are analyzed. We show experiments in 1D and 2D which characterize the steady-state solutions. keywords: granular matter, hyperbolic systems, finite differences schemes

An existence result for the sandpile problem on flat tables with walls

We derive an existence result for solutions of a differential system which characterizes the equilibria of a particular model in granular matter theory, the so-called partially open table problem for growing sandpiles. Such result generalizes a recent theorem of [6] established for the totally open table problem. Here, due to the presence of walls at the boundary, the surface flow density at th...

Godunov-type numerical methods for a model of granular flow

We propose and analyse finite volume Godunov typemethods based on discontinuous flux for a 2×2 system of non-linear partial differential equations proposed by Hadeler and Kuttler to model the dynamics of growing sandpiles generated by a vertical source on a flat bounded rectangular table. The problem considered here is the so-called partially open table problem where sand is blocked by a wall (...

Numerical study of heat gradient and crossing energy to around building walls containing phase change materials in Kashan temperature conditions

The application of phase change materials (PCM) in the variant parts of building because of the high capacity these materials, lead to an improvement in temperature conditions and reduction in energy consumption. Due to the high dependency of the performance of these materials to the ambient temperature fluctuations, their applications in climates with extreme temperature fluctuations has a sig...

Shear Capacity of Reinforced Concrete Flat Slabs Made with High-strength Concrete: A Numerical Study of the Effect of Size, Location, and Shape of the Opening (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Nowadays, concrete with strength higher than 50 MPa is utilized due to the ever increasing need for higher strength and prolonged healing properties. Despite the widespread use of high-strength concrete, only a few research projects have been conducted on the punching shear strength of high-strength concrete slabs. Reinforced concrete flat slabs are widely employed in structural systems. The lo...

Numerical Study of Natural Convection in an Inclined Cavity with Partially Active Side Walls Filled with Cu-water Nanofluid

The buoyancy-driven fluid flow and heat transfer in a square cavity with partially active side walls filled with Cu-water nanofluid is investigated numerically. The active parts of the left and the right side-walls of the cavity are maintained at temperatures Th and Tc, respectively, with Th>Tc. The enclosure’s top and bottom walls, as well as, the inactive parts of its side walls are kept insu...
